Welcome to the Department of Agricultural Sciences (AGSC) at Texas State University! I thank you for taking the time to visit our website.

Agriculture is a major economic driver in Texas. The Texas Workforce Commission projects there are more than 6,000 annual job openings from 2014-2024 for farm and ranch managers. The 2015-2020 employment outlook report by the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture and Purdue University published in 2015 states that there is an average of 57,900 jobs expected each year in agriculture. Only 35,400 new U.S. graduates with a bachelor’s or advanced degree in agricultural fields are expected, leaving an employment gap of 22,500 openings per year.

The Department of Agricultural Sciences offers programs, both at undergraduate and graduate levels, reflecting the diversity of choices available and skills required in modern agriculture and its related professions. The Department provides an enriched learning environment for a diverse body of undergraduate and graduate students and prepares them for careers in the agriculture-related fields at the state, national and international levels.
